Mortality

The reality of mortality

------------------------------------------------------

Time makes men mortal

Proving us temporary

Short shelf lives and

Pending expiration dates

Unavoidable fates

To meet the soft wet

Earth again, recycled trash

Compost for our most

Gracious host

Ashes to ashes and

Dust to dust

Glory in our last hours

To mingle with sweet soil

And sprout robust flowers

Demons

022/365

Some people face their demons, others run...

---------------------------------------------------

I tiptoe past my demons tucked tightly in their beds
Try as I may not to wake their tired tortured heads
Long nights of wreaking havoc, from weary woes they’ve fed
Courage ravished from my chest and filled with awful dread
I rather flee than fight or face them, regrets get left unsaid
I dare not tempt their spiteful hearts to turn on me instead

Scars

021/365

Battle wounds, wear them proudly. -VQ

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As time carries on it forgets about me
And all of the damage it left in its’ wake
Time doesn’t heal all wounds
Wounds heal over time
And it doesn’t erase the scars that remain
The scars that “remind you the past was real”
The scars that force you to feel
Push you to reveal
Those weaknesses that you try so hard to hide
And my scars are deep, dark, and jagged
The consequences of my lack of better judgement
But I rather wear them proudly
Than forget the lessons I’ve learned
From being burned by my own sins
In that sense, I always win
Because true repentance comes from within
And I’ve grown from my mistakes
Therefore, I accept my scars
And I love them
Because no one else wears them but me.

A Real Man

020/365

Lust is a lonely place. Real love takes a real man...

-------------------------------------------------------

It has been my experience that some men are only nice on the contingency of sex. If the notion of intimacy is out of the picture, then so is common courtesy it seems and chivalry. Why is it that men are so sex-driven? Primal survival mechanism to keep our species alive perhaps? No, because mating is what keeps the human population booming; making children not just having intercourse for the sake of pleasure. And I assure you, most men are not out here trying to inseminate the women of the world. Many are merely trying to divide and conquer the splendid fortress that is a woman’s body for their self-indulgences.

The more magnificent the allure of the capture the harder they work to get in. Striding confidently up to the front gates adorned in their best armor and equipped with their heaviest artillery. They pull out all the stops, going the extra mile to make you feel comforted and reassured by their heroic presence. After all, they’re only here to save you. All women need saving right? That’s what we’ve been taught since the dawn of…

Let Love Live

019/365

The human race is one. Hopefully society doesn't make you forget...

------------------------------------------------------

We walked by this beautiful bitter woman giving my date and I the side-eye. She said why don’t you date your own kind? I replied:

Oh, but we are of the same human kind. Flesh, blood, and bone the only difference being in the tone of my skin. My culture is just as colorful, my history just as deep, the rhythm flows through me the same way from my ears down to my feet.  My hips can keep the beat. I’m just as worthy of him as he is of me based on character not complexion. My curves cause erections the same way the breadth of his chest makes me wet. We are one, our connection cannot be undone by stony stares of disproval. If you cannot bear to behold such beauty, then I ask that weary eyes look away from our prized affection. Turn your attention to more pressing matters and silence the chatter of hate. Let love live.

Love Wishes

017/365

My attempt at writing a poem 'sestina' style. Definitely isn't an easy task to use the same 6 words over 6 stanzas. I included letters next to the repeated words within the body of the poem for those of you unfamiliar with the form. Enjoy!

What is it to love without angst? (A)

I imagine a sensation most sweet (B)

Of caramel coated delicious kisses (C)

And pleasure that numbs all pain (D)

Of promises that do not break (E)

And warm gentle dreams (F)

It seems like it is only in such dreams (F)

That this kind of love exists, for angst (A)

Is at the heart of all connections that break (E)

And all I’ve ever known are the bitter sweet (B)

Feelings of heartache and endless pain (D)

And emptiness behind wet kisses (C)

I’ve hoped for the electricity of kisses (C)

Only felt in my deepest of dreams (F)

A place where the…

Dear Izzy

016/365

Thinking of my little cousin who is only 10 years old and going in for major surgery tomorrow. She's having a rough time with it emotionally so I wrote this for her in the hopes that it cheers her up a bit. May God be with her through this process and calm her worried heart.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prayers up for you my princess I know that you are scared

Just know that when you need us we will always be right there

The journey won’t be easy but at the end there’s much to gain

I promise God will guide you through to relieve you of your pain

I know you don’t want to be different or stand out from the crowd

But baby girl you are a unicorn soaring high above the clouds

Your light shines bright within you it’s something you can’t hide

Your awesomeness is clear to see, your beauty undenied

Your silliness is contagious your laugh is one of a kind

Sassy yet keeps it classy, you have such a marvelous mind

Most importantly you are strong and smart, and you mean the world to me

You can do it we’ll help you through it to be the best that you can be!

Brick Jungle

015/365

A street sonnet ...

---------------------------------------------------------

Garbage speckles the ground as far as we can see

Trash tossed to the wayside without a second look

Those who know better build their fortune and flee

Those who do not get hooked, then get booked

Lives lost in seconds never given a second chance

Victims to the quicksand of the brick jungle

Steady fighting to survive; defenses enhanced

Circumstances never keeping them humble

Raised by the streets to be savage

No mercy to be had for the weak

Abandoned by parents with habits

Trained to TAKE IT in order to eat

A place where the will to thrive is alive

Is also where dreams get shot up and die

Lesson Learned

014/365

A little lesson for the ladies, listen closely...

---------------------------------------------------

Man deemed me unholy

The punishment to bleed

Forced to be the burden bearer

Designed to breed his seed

I never asked for this to happen

It wasn’t even me, it was Eve

But better yet she was not alone

Two mouths fed from that tree

Adam made the same mistake

And violated God’s decree

Where is then his consequence?

How does he remain judgement free?

Why is that the woman is vile

And the man’s fault we fail to see?

To me it is so crystal clear

That the serpent is the enemy

Satan in disguise whispering sweet fallacies

Playing into Eve’s fantasies

Phallus awakening indecencies

What is the moral of the story to take?

Ladies beware of the snake

Think Piece

013/365

You don't have to be a product of your past.

--------------------------------------------------------

We are all products of our environment and parental styles. The two most influential factors in the outcome of a person’s personality or character. Psychologist Gordon Allport theorized that our memories, past, and thoughts of future affect our mind set and, in turn, how we act. Ergo, how we think impacts our mood which then determines our behavior. The way we react to certain stimuli is adopted from the behavior patterns of both societal and familial relationships. Understanding the dynamics of interpersonal connections with others and the influence it has…

God Bless America

012/365

Resound: shut the whole system down! Cut the chains unbound from the oppression of our masters. Frown at our forefathers designated to write the script for freedom yet etching the burden of inequality onto the backs of the black man, fueled by their bias and fear. Driven by their internal sense of inferiority giving priority to the colorless, the culture-less, the cult. This is our plight; demons stained white roam the night and like thieves take off before dark turns to light.

Zombies

Some of our memories are tainted with trauma. Do not let them break you down. Release them into the wild and be a better you from the lessons you learned in the process.

The thick strands of black smoke slither out of the cigar like a serpent slowly sizing up its prey before a deadly strike. Converging and forming into a poisonous cloud that circles in the stale air around us like a murder of crows above a graveyard on a bitter winter night. He fills his lungs with the tar-like fumes taking in as much as he can at once; inhaling deeply, willingly, longingly. His eyes film-over after just one pull: a clear indication that the substance is not only powerful but seductive. He continues to chase the high not wanting to let go of the rolled-up concoction lit between his fingertips.

The smog reeks of death. Unlit it smells of permanent marker dipped in gasoline, but once the flame is put to the tip it ignites a pungent odor that reminds me very faintly of the funeral home where my mother used to work. I would sit on a stood beside the long white table watching intently as she...

New Moon Spell

010/365

To new beginnings and painless endings, I pray.

---------------------------------------------------------

New Moon I call to you for a clean slate

To guide me toward my rightful fate

Blessed be on this clear night’s sky

To all those giving change a try

Aid us down our troubled paths

To leave our baggage in the past

New Moon I ask you lead me still

To where my heart will feel fulfilled

Release me from regret and doubt

To ease the shame and let me out

Free me from my self-made cage

To defuse my rage and turn the page

New Moon this is my only wish

To lead a life filled with bliss

If you were locked in a confessional

They’re waiting in the vestibule
I thought you had potential

Manifest Success

008/365

Good karma comes when you stop focusing on revenge.Turn tragedy into triumph by investing time in your success...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My destiny is legacy. Written in the stars predetermined to shine. Time is of no essence to greatness. Shaped by God’s hands. Guided by the universe to disperse creation of a different kind. Imaginings from a twisted mind. The magnetic energy of Mercury flows within attracting those with similar souls: brethren in gains and goals. Twins of ambition. I must listen.

Come correct and respect the signs the cosmos is casting. Climb up on the perilous path carved for me. The road paved with good intentions and calamity is mine. Armed with the will power to face it. Prepared with the perfect dose of insanity to embrace it. Complete complacence in my ability to navigate tragedy; to rewrite trauma with the all-mighty pen. Avenge against the travesties of enemies with nothing less than the best to manifest success.

Let Karma do the dirty work. Shed me of the dead weight. Allow me the freedom to breathe again. What is meant for me, will be. Faith that fake friends will not stay as their masks fade; eradicated by the power in my purpose. Unfit to come along for the ride. Distractions causing inaction, precious moments wasted away. Maintain small circles to end the cycle and keep my cynicism at bay. Turn my darkest hours into beacons that lead the way.

Talking in Circles

007/365

Often, people are too busy running their mouths, making judgments, and preparing arguments to LISTEN. Sometimes when you stop and LISTEN you may realize that you're actually saying the same thing. This, my friends, is what i refer to as talking in circles. Clear communication is key....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1: I never asked you to love me.

2: No one ever asks to be loved. Even when they need to.

1: Why would you need to ask? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose?

2: So, you’re saying love is only valid if it is given without question?

1: Well yeah, if you must ask that probably means the person never really intended to give it to you in the first place.

2: I think consent to love should be given. Not everyone is ready and willing to give or take it. You should make sure the person is open to receiving what you’re offering before moving forward.

1: But then is it real love if you had to...

Best When Broken

006/365

People will tear you apart and use the dismembered pieces to build themselves up. Self love is the strongest armor. -VQ

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tainted lips spewing filthy lies stain my flesh
Dirty hands command my jaded thighs to stretch
open, my refusals unspoken I’m choked by regret
Breathless and speechless you harness my weakness
Injecting pain I can’t reject, I force my body to forget
My tears are your trophies, my heartache your token
You’re only at your best when I’m broken

Delusions of grandeur smeared on your face
Illusions of love lost in a lustful embrace
Promises forsaken attraction mistaken for grace
Cut me with your words, rip into me with rage
Leaving scars that do not heal, spilled blood upon this page
Killing me softly your poison is potent
You’re only at your best when I’m broken

Running Dreams

005/365

For as long as I can remember I’ve had the running dreams. As far back as childhood I can recall so clearly the sense of urgency and panic that dominated my dream world. They changed throughout the years, of course, in content and imagery but the context always remained the same. Overwhelming fear welling up inside of me forcing me to take flight. Never did I stop to think and fight. The terror too great, my only instinct to run and hide.

The earliest running dream I can think of was about dinosaurs. Enormous dinosaurs loose in the neighborhood causing mass destruction under their gargantuan feet. Thinking back I can’t say I ever saw them rip a person apart, but even the mere thought that they could sent such a shock through my body that all I could seem to manage to do was cower under a table until it was over. Somewhere my little self could shimmy into and seek comfort in the darkness; the solidarity. Away from anything scary trying to get me for reasons I never understood. Or tried to comprehend. I just ran. Every time.

As I got older and my thoughts grew darker and jaded, the dinosaurs morphed into wild animals. Tigers roamed the streets hungry for my flesh I was sure of it. I never once questioned my paranoia. Never stopped to check if....

Sweet Tooth

When the cravings kick in leaving you hungry for more...

-------------------------------------------------

She smells sugary as ever
Of freshly baked cookies
and sweet blue dreams
Moist mouths salivate
to the enticing aroma
Her scent lingers in
a cotton candy cloud
Euphoria washes over
and envelopes us in
her syrupy essence
Excited taste buds
tingle in anticipation
Her flavor savored on
the tips of tongues
begging for more
Welcomed embraces
from soft skin
falling apart beneath
eager fingertips
Chills from the rush
of her touch
Inhale her deeply
letting pleasure fill
the voids with longing
With a thirst never
quite quenched
And an appetite
never satisfied
